Instead of violence and competition in nature, the new ecology will be based on co-operation. And no human predators will be there either.

Jesus said:

• The meek will inherit the earth… (-Matthew 5)
  (meek = gentle, kind, non-aggressive)

Does that mean only good people can get in?
Blessed are those who do His commandments. They will be free to eat the tree of life, and to walk through those gates into the city … fortune-tellers, the sexually immoral, murderers, idol-worshippers, and anyone who loves lies and lying - they’re left out. (-Revelation 22)

Gulp. Does that mean a lot of us are left out?
Yes - Jesus said most people won’t go:
Choose the narrow gate. An easy turn and a wide road lead to destruction, and you can follow a large crowd there. But the road to life is through a narrow gate and has very few travellers. Very few people find it. (-Jesus, in Matthew 7:13)

Another passage says similar things, but look at the ‘happy ending’:
Don’t let anyone fool you. …no-one who worships idols, or sins sexually (straight or gay), or steals, or is greedy, or gets drunk, or speaks destructively or mugs people will get to God’s kingdom. Some of you WERE like that BUT you were cleaned up, changed and forgiven by Jesus and the Holy Spirit. (-1 Corinthians 9-11)

So how do you get that? Jesus’ first public statement was:
‘The long-awaited Kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the gospel.’ (-Mark 1:14,15)

Repent = ‘get a new mind/attitude’, i.e. re-think your life, throw out bad behaviour (‘sins’ like selfishness, violence, pride, loveless lust), let God change your ambitions. We all need changing before we’re safe to take to heaven, but God won’t just brainwash us - He wants our co-operation.

Gospel = the good news that Jesus took the punishment for our bad behaviour. Our sins deserve death, not eternal life, but He died the death we deserve so we could have the eternal life He deserves. He did that for everybody, but most people have never believed it or accepted the gift!!
